OCLC To Offer Free Online Training for Members

We are pleased to announce that OCLC now offers free, live-online and self-paced training for many courses that cover Cataloging, Resource Sharing and FirstSearch services.

Advances in distance learning technologies and the increased demand for online learning have allowed us to offer more training while affording greater economies of scale. This makes it possible to pass these savings on to OCLC members by offering free training on the services members rely on most.

We want all members to be able to take full advantage of OCLC training and learning opportunities. OCLC trainers and training partners—Amigos, WiLS, Minitex, MLNC, MCLS, OHIONET and LYRASIS—will continue to offer a wide variety of classes and learning opportunities to help members refresh or maintain skills, ensure effective use of OCLC subscription services, and learn new applications to help members leverage their investments in the cooperative. Some of the partner-led courses will continue to be offered for a fee, at prices set by OCLC training partners.

On-site training or customized courses for your library are still an option; simply contact the OCLC Training Team, by calling 1-800-848-5800, or by sending an e-mail to training@oclc.org, to discuss specific interests and needs.

Spotlight on RDA Illustration

RDA - What do I Need to Know?RDA, Resource Description and Access, is the new cataloging standard that will replace AACR2. It offers libraries the potential to change significantly how bibliographic data is created and used.

To help you learn more about RDA, OCLC is collaborating with Amigos, Lyrasis, MCLS, Minitex, and OHIONET to bring you educational opportunities that can help you through this transition. There is a wide range of courses now available through the OCLC Training Portal.

OCLC also offers an RDA Resource Page that is full of links to other RDA resources and information including the RDA Toolkit.
